Location

Los Guajares is about 50 minutes drive due south of the historic city of Granada and Granada airport. Coming from Granada and driving down the main N323 to the coast take the first turning right after the town of Velez de Benaudalla. Los Guajares is clearly signposted. The nearest coast is at Salobreña www.salobrena-properties.com. The large, coastal town of Motril is 35 minutes drive from Guajar Alto. Malaga airport is 2 hours away.

Climate
Being close to the coast the winters are less severe than mountain areas slightly further inland. Days are warm but winter nights, particulary in December and January can be cold. Spring and autumn are warm and sunny and summer very hot. There is less humidity than on the coast so the heat is less oppressive.

The Villages
There are 3 villages in Los Guajares. The largest is Guajar Faragüit which is 8km from the N323. Nearby is the smallest village - Guajar Fondon. The last village, Guajar Alto, is a further 6km up the valley.

Facilities
Guajar Faragüit is the largest village and has a small supermarket, bakers, health centre and 2 bars. It is the administrative centre of Los Guajares with the town hall for the area and also has a school. Guajar Fondon has one small shop and a bar/restaurant on the outskirts but it is within walking distance of Guajar Faragüit. Guajar Alto has 4 bars, 3 of which have restaurants and a small, well stocked supermarket. There are daily deliveries of bread, fruit and fish. In the summer the locals dam the River Toba, in an idyllic spot within walking distance of the village, to create a small lake surrounded by a picnic area for the locals to enjoy.

Public Transport
There is a daily bus service to Granada which leaves Guajar Alto early in the morning and stops at Guajar Fondon and Guajar Faragüit then winds its way to the City via Pinos del Valle. It returns in the evening. There are also services during the day to and from the town of Motril on the coast.
